Diving in Ormoc
Besides being the premiere location for conducting businesses, Ormoc City is also the starting point for beginning your excursion into the best dive sites that Leyte has to offer.
Heavens Gate
At the southernmost edge of the island province, this dive site is also called Tangkaan Point. If you are in Ormoc City this one of the sites you should not miss out on.
The dive is quite deep, and slopes down in the deeper parts. When you get to this level, you will see several types of corals, including gorgonians, and numerous types of sponges and anemones. There are also lots of fish and other creatures including nudibranchs.
Medic Care
This dive site with the unusual sounding name is off San Roque and remains one of the most frequented diving destinations in Ormoc Leyte.
At a depth of 44 meters (over 145 feet),are numerous frogfish, and also several large coral reefs, most of them resting on several large rocks. There are also numerous and myriad types of sponges at the lower depths.
Adrians Cove
There are several dive sites around Limasawa Island in Leyte, and one of the most well known and visited is Adrians Cove.
Diving into Adrians Cove, the Ormoc tourist will find sloping walls that are covered by several different types of corals including staghorn and black ones. Some parts of the bottom have sand, and there are also sea squirts.
Gunters Wall
Gunters Wall is also found near Limasawa Island, and can be
reached by motor boat. Whether you prefer to go day or night diving, this site will have plenty to offer dive buffs.
Aside from spotting exotic fish types like eagle rays and shrimp mantis, there are also plenty of black corals, and in the deeper areas are several green tube corals.
Bonnies Place
Bonnies Place is one of the dive sites near Ormoc Leyte that is
rapidly attracting attention and drawing in bigger and bigger number of visitors.
Bonnies Place is situated at the southern part of the island province, and while it is quite deep, the currents are quite steady. There are several unique coral reef formations on the rock promontories and also numerous types of fish.
Sogot Bay
Is rather far from Ormoc - around 300 km. but worth a mention anyway if you are in that area.
Among the dive sites off Panoan Island that you might be interested in visiting.
There are several attractions in Sogot Bay, including the various types of manta rays, hammersharks, tiger sharks and of course the whale sharks. While it can be seen in other dive sites, it appears most frequently in Sogot Bay.
Turtle Rock
Padre Burgos is another destination quite far from Ormoc (200km.)- but again worth a mention in case you find yourself in that area. This is where Turtle Rock dive is located.
This dive site goes down some 36 meters (120 feet) and at the bottom you will see several large rock formations covered by beautiful corals. Although it is called Turtle Rock, the main attraction of this dive site are its assorted fish.
Diving sites around Ormoc Leyte have always drawn in snorkeling aficionados, and with the advent of modern transportation, dive shops, centers and resorts, taking the plunge has never been more thrilling.
